2019: The Development of a Mobile Surveying Technology for Water Situation Monitoring and Analysis

12/07/2021

HII has developed a mobile surveying technology to develop a Mobile Mapping System (MMS) which is lightweight, precise, and easy to install on automobiles, motorcycles, boats. It can shorten the time and limitations in conventional surveying methods, resulting in faster operation and easier access to the risk area. The survey result is displayed in 3D. In the future, it can integrate land, water, and air survey which result in high accuracy and more efficiency in either planning or management of water.

2019, HII has developed a Mobile Mapping System (MMS) comprised of Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), Laser Scanner and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), and installed on the land survey vehicles e.g. car or motorcycle. The system is installed with a processing system to collect data from the survey. HII has tested the system on the flood-affected area from Podul and Kajaki storm in Ubon Ratchathani Province from 28 October 28 – 1 November 2019.

The photos from the flood situation in Warin Chamrap District by MMS survey and 3D geometric model showed the damaged dike total of 57.84 meters length and water-barrier level.

The result from survey and 3D geometric data can specify detailed and accurately measure the area’s width, length, height, and size. The system can also measure the structures that have been additionally built or explore the damage in the area.
