What is Automated Telemetry Station?

23/04/2020

Automated Telemetry Station is a device that can measure physical, chemical, or biological values and then automatically transmit data e.g. noise level, temperature, humidity, pH value, amount of oxygen in water, photos or even Automated Telemetry Station itself status to the specified location.

Hydro-Informatics Institute (Public Organization) or HII has developed the compact and easy-to-install Automated Telemetry Station to monitor weather and water levels from remote stations. The Automated Telemetry Station consists of several sensors measuring water level, precipitation, temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, and solar radiation and automatically links all data through network providers or Satellite Communication System. Currently, over 900 stations are deployed and operated 24/7 countrywide and the data are displayed in Internet GIS format at www.thaiwater.net. These measured data are being used to support the water situation analysis necessary for effective water and disaster management.

Types of HII’s Automated Telemetry Station

Weather Station
(9-meter tower)
Water Level Station
(Install on bridge)
Water Quality Station (Salinity Measurement)
(2-meter tower)
– Measure weather parameters (temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure), precipitation, wind speed and direction
– Installation within 2 hours
– Suitable for upstream forest
– Transmit the data every 1 hour (normal) or 10 mins (raining)
– Measure weather parameters (temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure), precipitation, and water level by radar sensor
– Installation within 2 hours
– Radar sensor can be installed away from water
– Transmit the data every 1 hour (normal) or 10 mins (raining)
– Measure weather parameters (temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure), precipitation, and water quality (salinity)
– Installation within 1 hour
– Measure salinity up to 60 ppt (g/l)
– Transmit the data every 1 hour (normal) or 10 mins (raining)

Highlight of Automated Telemetry Station

Since 2004, HII has been developing Automated Telemetry including a set of measurement tools, sources of energy, ando communication and controlling system that enable the current telemetry version to efficiently operate in real-time through GPRS Modem. Moreover, the network provider has also improved their services that minimize size and cost of station infrastructure and antenna from 9-meter to 2-meter height. Besides, the new compact design now can be installed within 1 hour while its efficiency and accuracy are not being reduced. HII’s new telemetry station is now “Compact, cost-saving, mobility, and easy to maintain”.
